The Cocoon

Abstract_Cocoon_by_Sariebear20

There is a cocoon that you call home

Its membranes are thick and as strong as a bone

In it you’re content to being alone

“No rain. Not even a trace of a stick or a stone.”*

But there is a crack in the walls you hold dear

Someday it will break, exposing the world you fear

The pieces will shatter, the boundaries will disappear

And you’ll have to listen to the voice you once refused to hear

“Dear heart, be strong. Don’t let the pain drive you away.”

“The world is full of wonders, the days are rarely gray.”

“The storm will subside, the chaos will cease,”

“And someday you’ll truly achieve your inner peace.”

*Inspired by the English quote: “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words may never hurt me.”
